Your apprenticeship journey at Lloyds Banking Group
At Lloyds Banking Group, we offer 35 different apprenticeships across the bank with various qualifications from level 2 up to level 7. Apprentices are valued employees of the company and are offered fantastic learning and development opportunities alongside exciting roles to grow their career in.

In this broadcast, we heard from Anne Vu who has developed the Financial Services apprenticeship for Lloyds Commercial Banking Markets (CB Markets), as well as Joshua Gilson, who follows a Level 6 Financial Services Apprenticeship alongside a sales role in CB Markets and Sarah Kidd who has just completed the Level 4 apprenticeship in financial services alongside a role in Finance.

Structure of the CB Markets apprenticeship scheme (presented by Joshua Gilson)
The CB Markets Apprenticeship scheme is a Level 6 apprenticeship over a minimum of 3 years. As an apprentice, you will join a cohort studying towards a degree equivalent qualification in banking and attending structured trainings on the role as well as through a dedicated learning coach to ensure you develop the right skillset to build your career on. You also get to discover fascinating roles in CB Markets through 6-month rotations; supporting large customers to finance their strategic ambitions – such as building a hospital or expanding internationally – and risk manage their financial exposures to currency fluctuations, interest rate or commodities. Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, we will help you choose your perfect role in the business to develop in.

Structure of the Finance apprenticeship scheme (presented by Sarah Kidd)
The Finance Apprenticeship scheme is a Level 4 apprenticeship over a minimum of 2 years. As an apprentice, you study towards a foundation degree equivalent qualification in management accounting with CIMA. You will also be part of structured training events to develop your interpersonal and workplace skills to allow you to integrate and progress with the group. Your role is based in Group finance where you will learn about the variety and scale of the financial function in the group and take advantage of many opportunities to learn and develop your network and career. At the end of the apprenticeship you will be fully integrated member of the finance team and will be
supported and fully equipped to progress.

  • Joshua Gilson

    Higher Degree Level Apprenticeship with Chartered Banker at Lloyds Banking Group

    Josh joined Lloyds Banking Group in 2012 initially as a cashier in a branch working his way up to become a mortgage adviser. After spotting an internal opportunity to get to the next level of his career while growing his academic background, Josh successfully joined Lloyds Commercial Banking Markets (CB Markets) as an apprentice in 2017. The CB Markets division is a highly dynamic part of Lloyds Bank where there is a clear path for growth for apprentices and endless support from the business to ensure colleagues develop and learn. Josh has actually been nominated as a finalist for the 2019 Lloyds Banking Group Rising Star Apprentice award in recognition of his fast development and contribution. As part of his apprenticeship, Josh is studying towards a level 6 apprenticeship (degree standard), while having the opportunity to rotate across various roles within the business to grow his knowledge of the bank’s products and services. Josh hopes to continue learning and developing within his role, enabling him to help support his clients with all of their risk management needs, in turn, helping Britain prosper.

  • Anne VU

    Head of the Markets Accelerator Programme at Lloyds Banking Group

    Anne is a multicultural professional with 14 years of experience in the financial industry gained in the corporate and banking sectors across several jurisdictions including France, UK and Asia. She has concentrated a large part of her career as a derivatives specialist, supporting a mix of corporate clients, FI clients and Supranational clients manage their financial risks.

    In 2017, Anne has been appointed to set-up the Markets Accelerator Programme, a pioneering international talent programme dedicated to Apprentices, Graduates and Associates in the Commercial Banking Markets division of Lloyds Bank Plc. As part of her role, Anne is in charge of the attraction, deployment and upskilling of circa 100 colleagues in Financial and Capital Markets to ensure colleagues are adequately equipped to support the bank’s clients’ ambitions in a more digital world.

    Anne has been at the core of the design of the pioneering Lloyds CB Markets apprenticeship scheme, one of the first front office apprenticeship schemes in the City when it was launched. The scheme allows successful candidates to follow a stretching learning path on their roles and qualifications to perform at their personal best.

  • Sarah Kidd

    Higher Apprentice, Lloyds Banking Group

    After completing her A levels at sixth form and securing a place to do English at university, Sarah decided to apply for the Lloyds finance higher apprenticeship scheme so she could fast track her career and study for her CIMA qualification.

    Sarah enjoys working for a large scale organisation that has a necessity for innovation, keeping up with the digital evolution and the integration of next-generation technology. Sarah is proud to work for a company that is collaborative and open-minded, supporting colleagues to help Britain prosper. Her favourite responsibility involves leading a team of colleagues to support the community in fundraising events and working with several local schools and universities.

    Role Summary

    Reporting to the General Manager, the Front of House Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the reception / office department whilst ensuring all hotel, conference and events bookings are optimise and logged accordingly. The is a proactive role which requires the FOH to build strong relationships with the entire Mill Farm team.

    Main Duties (but not limited to)

    Oversee the day-to-day running of the reception/office department and devise a weekly departmental rota in line with business demands.

    Provide a high standard of customer service, by ensuring every customer is treated in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner and that all customer enquiries are dealt with in a positive way.

    Checking guests in and out of the hotel ensuring correct payments are taken as per the company’s standard of procedure.

    Action any closure of room type or property level in third party distribution channels including GDS provider.

    Action any amendments to Best Available Rate Strategy, third party distribution channels and GDS provider.

    To ensure all maintenance issues observed and reported are logged accordingly.

    To adhere to AFC Fylde sales procedure when selling tickets, memberships, and merchandise.

    To ensure policies, procedures, reporting systems, handovers, logs, and incident reports are reported and communicated accordingly.

    Coordinate all enquires for residential Christmas and New Year packages ensuring that all reservations adhere to defined policies regarding deposits and prepayments deadlines and all necessary correspondence is sent to guests.

    Ensure events and conferences are booked in properly and function sheets have been issued accordingly.

    About You

    Previous experience as a Hotel Front of House Manager or in a similar role.

    Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

    Excellent analytical skills.

    Good knowledge of third-party channels, GDS, and Property Managements Systems.

    Good problem solving and interpersonal skills.

    Highly knowledgeable of the hotel industry and tourism in the local area.
