Our award winning apprenticeship scheme has been running for over a decade, providing local young people the opportunity to build a career with the UK’s leading bed and mattress manufacturer. We offer a range of apprenticeships in areas such as manufacturing, junior management, warehousing & storage, human resources, IT, and finance. Our schemes last for 2 years and we guarantee all of our apprentices a full time, permanent position upon successful completion of their apprenticeship.
We are committed to the development of our apprentices and provide high quality training so they have the skills and qualifications they need to succeed in their chosen career. All apprentices attend a local College for up to a day a week to ensure they gain a nationally recognised qualification at the end of the two year programme.
Our apprenticeship scheme was first recognised in 2014 when the Prime Minister, David Cameron, visited the factory. In a speech to our employees Mr Cameron described Silentnight as a ‘great business’ and emphasised our investment in UK manufacturing, product innovation and our successful apprenticeship scheme. Since then our apprenticeship scheme has been recognised as a regional winner at the 2015 National Apprenticeships Awards, and Silentnight was listed in the top 100 companies providing apprenticeships nationally.
The local MP for Pendle, Andrew Stephenson, visited Silentnight in March 2016 as part of National Apprenticeship Week and presented one of our Higher Apprentices, Tom Firth, with a prize for gaining one of only 8 places nationally on The Furniture Makers’ Company ‘Young Professional Industry Experience’. Since then, Andrew has highlighted our Apprenticeship Scheme twice in the House of Commons, once as part of questions to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and once as part of Prime Minister’s Questions, which Prime Minister David Cameron responded to by recalling his visit to Silentnight in 2014 and commending our Apprenticeship Scheme.
