“My apprenticeship has given me a fantastic opportunity to understand the core functions of a major business. Now in the final year of my apprenticeship, I work solely within the Project Controls Function at National Grid. While being in the Project Controls team, I have been involved in many major projects and have been able to develop my project management skills further. I am really enjoying my time within the company and I look forward to my future at National Grid.”

Nic joined National Grid in 2016 on the Portfolio Planning Higher Apprenticeship course, he graduated this course in August 2018 with a Foundation Degree in Power System Engineering from Aston University.

“In my role, I am responsible for negotiating system access on National Grid’s transmission system and coordinating the correct resource to complete the required maintenance. The work I plan ranges from replacing emergency light fittings, to multi billion pound wind farm connections such as the Hornsea connection. It’s essential to be adaptable in my role, where system faults and other constraints can change an entire years plan overnight. ”
