National Performance Manager, Balfour Beatty
Our guest presenter, Kevin has worked in construction for over fourteen years. Taking advantage of the career opportunities available in the industry, he has progressed from labouring on site to a traineeship and a university degree. Kevin is deeply committed to STEM activities, having enjoyed studying Science and Maths as well as Geography. A career in civil engineering and infrastructure was his destiny and he is keen to pass his enthusiasm and excitement for the industry on to as many young people as possible.
Now a National Performance Manager, working on Balfour Beatty’s Scape Civil Engineering frameworks, Kevin has a wealth of experience in the industry including projects ranging from highways, to fire stations and a shopping centre in Liverpool.

Our guest presenter Jasvir has worked in Customer Service for over thirteen years, six of those in the construction industry. Whether working on a road, rail, bridge or public realm scheme Jasvir has always made it her priority to seek out opportunities to maximise the benefit that the project has on the local community.
Jasvir now leads on Social Value in Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Service – Southern Business Unit. Working alongside clients and project teams she builds an understanding of what matters most to the communities where we work to ensure our work leaves a lasting positive legacy. This includes working with local schools and colleges to arrange work experience placements, apprenticeship and graduate opportunities as well as supporting local businesses.
Jasvir ’s aim is to introduce the construction industry and the career opportunities available to as many people as possible, focusing on diversifying construction to attract both women and men into the industry.
'Career In Plant' Scheme Operative, Lynch Plant
Prior to starting with Lynch in September 2018, Senghan worked for Dixons as a junior engineer & had a weekend job as a removal man. He always wanted to work in construction & the scheme gave him the opportunity to gain new skills & carve a good career to help provide for his young family. Since starting, Senghan has become an integral part of the M4 project operating dual view dumpers, dumpers & ADT’s. He has also started his progression in simulator training on 360° tracked excavators.
Senior Engineer, Tony Gee and Partners LLP
Catherine became an ICE Quest Scholar in 2005 before embarking on a MEng degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Southampton. Throughout university Catherine was sponsored by Tony Gee and Partners LLP, working for three summer placements gaining early valuable experience in the Engineering world. Upon graduation Catherine joined Tony Gee in their Esher office working across the company in the Rail and Structures groups, before settling with Highways. Catherine is also a Chartered Civil Engineer with the ICE and a Member of CIHT.
Catherine has worked on a variety of projects for public and private organisations, designing both permanent and temporary works. Notable schemes were the London 2012 Eton Dorney Temporary works and the A142 Ely Southern Bypass detailed design. Using her more recent experience, Catherine is currently the TG Project Manager overseeing four of the Wokingham Major Highways Programme projects. Catherine is responsible for a variety of tasks including the project programmes, budgets and resource. She enjoys communicating with people across organisations and levels on a daily basis. Catherine also attends progress meetings with the contractor and client.
Catherine followed a career in Civil Engineering thanks to a school careers day when she was 16. She continues to give back what she gained by volunteering as a STEM Ambassador, attending School careers events.
HR Director, Tony Gee and Partners LLP
With over 20 years working in the Civil Engineering industry, Gareth leads the HR team at Tony Gee and Partners, a civil engineering design consultancy that supports construction projects across the world. He works in the Head Office in Esher.
A particular passion of Gareth is developing opportunities for fresh talent into the industry. He is responsible for an undergraduate and apprenticeship programme which represents close to 15% of the overall workforce, ensuring that every one of the fledgling engineers gains as much exposure to the world of civil engineering and construction as possible.
Gareth is an active member of the industry wide Technical Apprenticeship Consortium and has been part of the development of civil engineering apprenticeship standards at level 3 and level 6 and has witnessed first-hand just how powerful apprenticeships are and the impact that fresh thinking has on the construction industry.
Digital Degree Apprentice, Tony Gee and Partners LLP
Mariana is the first software degree apprentice at Tony Gee and Partners.
During sixth form, apprenticeships weren’t really advertised to students but when she learned that they were a mixture of hands on practical experience alongside studying part time, it was a route she needed to explore further.
Having completed her A Levels and taken a gap year, Mariana applied for the Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship at Tony Gee because she felt it was a great opportunity to gain experience in the workplace as well as study part time at University. Alongside this, she has just become a STEM Ambassador so will be taking part in multiple activities in the near future; going out into schools and clubs and speaking to a range of people.
Thus far, Tony Gee have helped Mariana gain the skills she requires to succeed in her role so she is looking forward to progressing within Tony Gee.
Emerging Talent Coordinator, Balfour Beatty
It was Chloe’s research in 2018/19 into Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and the digitisation of the construction industry that first sparked her interest in construction.
Chloe currently works in Balfour Beatty’s Emerging Talent Resourcing Team, seeing through the full recruitment cycle of Balfour Beatty’s Graduate, Apprentices and Placement Schemes.
As well as co-ordinating assessment centres, Chloe connects with candidates on the wide range of opportunities Balfour Beatty has to offer. Chloe enjoys attending some of the UKs largest STEM events, such as The Big Bang, where she can use her enthusiasm and passion to encourage as many young people into the industry as possible.
Chloe hopes to join the Balfour Beatty Graduate Scheme herself in 2020 and is excited to continue to progress her career further within the industry.
Senior Commercial Manager, Balfour Beatty
Nick started his career in construction in 1995 on the £250m the MoD Procurement Executive in Bristol – at the time the largest project in Europe. He worked his way up from Technical Clerk to Assistant QS on the project and now works for Balfour Beatty as a Senior Commercial Manager.
. Nick has gained a wealth of experience in the industry having worked in both the housing and civil engineering markets. He’s worked on a wide range of complex and high value projects which have ranged from; housing modernisation, MoD property maintenance, school extensions and repairing London’s flood defences
Senior Quantity Surveyor, Balfour Beatty
After completing an BTEC National Diploma in Construction in 2007, James joined Balfour Beatty as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
James saw the value of coupling practical hands on experience with studying and via the training opportunities Balfour Beatty provided he studied for an HNC in Construction followed by a BSc (Hons) in Commercial Management & Quantity Surveying.
Fast forward thirteen years and James is now a Senior Quantity Surveyor handling all commercial aspects of a project.

Tessa joined Lynch in 2018 with 7 years’ experience within the Recruitment industry working within different sectors before finding her home with Lynch.
With her extensive experience and knowledge within her field she came into the business and changed the dynamics and restructured the recruitment teams putting in place a new operator recruitment strategy ensuring we deliver to the best of our ability.
Entering the business as a Recruitment manager she quickly progressed to National Recruitment Manager and oversees the recruitment and training division nationwide.
Tessa makes sure that across her department the highest level of communication and professionalism are expected at all times with projects needs met with a can-do attitude.
