Future Technology at Gatwick – Can your pupils contribute?
Gatwick is a fast growing airport committed to continuing capital investment which will help the airport grow into London’s airport of choice. Last year there were over 45.6 million passengers travelling through the airport.
A key part of this development is promoting energy saving techniques and ideas. Our Decade of Change sets out the targets that our teams must work towards and so far we have made many important changes.
These changes range from simple ideas such as installing solar panels on free roof space, to others including reducing our carbon emissions by 50%. 25% of our energy needs to come from renewable sources by 2020.
The basis of the competition is really straightforward – develop a simple but effective energy saving idea and present it in a graphical manner. The idea could be anything from using a new low energy technology to how we could carry out a process in a more energy efficient way.
Schools – Each school team will comprise of a maximum of 10 pupils. The competition will be run in conjunction with CREST, and can be entered for a Bronze award. The competition is aimed at Years 7- 9.
The first 20 teams that enter will have their registration fee for the CREST Award paid for by Gatwick Airport. There can be a maximum of one team from each school to enter.
The entry will consist of a poster illustrated with the improvement opportunity and be supported with facts and numbers as appropriate.
Entries will be judged by a panel of technical and operational experts from the airport.
The winners will be invited for a behind the scenes tour of Gatwick Airport in July 2018 to see the advanced technology already being used on the campus.
All entries will be displayed at the South East’s Big Bang Fair on the 27th and 28th June 2018, where Gatwick has an interactive zone and is the Headline Sponsor.
How to Enter:
Stage 1: Register your interest before the 23rd March by email to firstname.lastname@example.org stating your name, school and contact details.
Stage 2 will be a Learn Live Broadcast where you will be allowed to submit questions for our technical experts to answer.
Stage 3 develop and submit your idea! Please send entries by email (PDF format preferred). It must be possible to be clearly printed at A3 size.
The final entry date will be 01/06/2018. The winning entries will be notified in June 2018 and invited to attend a tour of the airport in July 2018.
