Al Whitehead, Graduate Quantity Surveyor
During the first two years of my career with Balfour Beatty I was based at Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering in Derby. This role allowed me to experience a number of challenging and interesting projects installing the foundations for a wide range of structures; such as Central London skyscrapers, UK Rail and Road infrastructure, windfarms, and Amazon distribution centres. However, I have recently moved within the business and I am now based at Balfour Beatty Regional (North & Midlands) in Leeds. Here, Balfour Beatty deliver a number of major Civil Engineering and Construction projects in the region.
I joined the Balfour Beatty graduate scheme as a non-cognate graduate (i.e. my first degree was in a subject unrelated to Construction – History) and I am currently studying for my Master’s degree in Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Trent University, which Balfour Beatty are sponsoring me to complete. I attend university one day a week and work the remaining four, and I will finish my studies in September 2018.
