Health Careers LIVE are live streamed events that broadcast to thousands across the UK wanting to find out more about the different job roles within the NHS.
This broadcast featured Leah and Josie who talked to us about their careers in Adult Social Work and what opportunities there are as a carer.
Working in Adult Social Care or integrated teams alongside peers and key professionals every day, we have a variety of roles including social care assistants, social care development coordinators, social workers, occupational therapists, as well as finance and administrative staff. All of these roles can give you a greater insight into the work of adult social care in the statutory sector.

Leah has a BSc in Social Work and an MA in Advanced Mental Health Practice. Qualified in 2007, Leah has a wide variety of experience across Adult Social Care, including working within specialist mental health services (both acute and recovery) as well as taking on more strategic and engagement roles in equality and diversity. Currently, Leah is the Safeguarding Advisor for the Guildford Adult Social Care team. She supports the team to ensure that the they adhere to its statutory duties under the Care Act 2014 as well as ensuring this work is completed to a high quality standard. Leah also has a post-graduate certificate in Practice Education so mentors and assesses social work students on their placement.
Josie has a Bsc in Social Work, working since 2013 with both older adults and younger people (over 18) with a disability such as; dementia, a physical disability, mental health, learning disability or brain injury. She supports individuals to explore their care and support needs, including involving people who may be unable to clearly express their views or are at risk of abuse or neglect. Josie says it is a busy, dynamic and interesting role; every day is different.
Josie also has a post-graduate certificate in Practice Education so mentors and assesses social work students on their placement.
