Health Careers LIVE are live streamed events that broadcast to thousands across the UK wanting to find out more about the different job roles within the NHS.
This live broadcast will feature day in the life videos and interviews with Michelle Offen, Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist & Ailie Rodgers, Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist.
I am the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist for East Surrey Hospital. I qualified as an OT in 2012 after a 4yr part time course at Brighton University. After I finished my course I worked in an acute hospital on an orthopaedic ward and then moved to social services. Whilst in social services I worked as a reablement OT visiting people in their own homes and then as senior practitioner OT completing complex visits/cases and supporting junior staff. In 2019 I moved back into acute medical care as a Band 7 team leader and mid 2020 I took on the role of Clinical Lead OT. I now manage a team of up to 40 OT’s/OTAs. I really enjoy seeing patients returning to their own homes and helping them to be more independent in their own lives. I like supporting new graduates, senior OT’s and working together as a team.
I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2017 following a 4 year BSc(Hons) course at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. After completing some rotations in the acute hospital setting as a Junior (Band 5) Physiotherapist, I specialised in Respiratory Physiotherapy in 2019.
I work on a mixture of cardiorespiratory, surgical, high dependency and intensive care wards over 9 month rotations. I am currently based at a specialist unit which provides longer term rehabilitation and ventilation weaning for patients with neuromuscular conditions.
I also help run the department Twitter page @SashTherapies and enjoy any teaching opportunities that come my way!
