Healthcare Science Week

Healthcare science week is an annual celebration to raise awareness for the many careers in healthcare science. It provides your healthcare science professionals with an opportunity to promote their profession and inspire the scientific workforce of the future.

People in your community have the chance to learn about what scientists do and the vital role they play in patient care and treatment.

  • Charoula Petsa

    Trainee Clinical Scientist (Bioinformatics)

Who says that science is easy? Who says that baking is easy either? Who says that you don’t “burn” yourself with science? Who says that you don’t “burn” yourself with baking either? But if you can think yourself of learning how to bake, you can also do science.

  • Kyah Howard

    Trainee Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Physics)

Kyah works as a trainee Clinical Scientist at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.  She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2018 and is currently in her second year of the Scientist Training Programme, specialising in Radiotherapy Physics. The programme involves completing a 3-year hospital-based placement and Master’s degree at an accredited university. Radiotherapy Physics is concerned with the use of ionising radiation for therapeutic applications such as cancer care. Radiotherapy physicists perform testing on the imaging and treatment systems to ensure that patients receive the correct dose, plan radiotherapy treatments and advise on the radiobiology of radiation therapy.

  • Leah Wannell

As an audiologist with 10 years experience, Leah’s passion for the job is only surpassed by the vibrancy of her hair. Currently working with adults with hearing difficulties, Leah enjoys her work time training the next generation of audiologists and helping her patients get the most out of their social lives.
