About Midwifery
Midwives often describe their job as ‘privileged’. The role they have in preparing women for the delivery of new life makes them a vital presence during all stages of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.

Having completed my BSc Midwifery Studies I began my career as a midwife at St Peter’s Hospital. I have worked in all clinical areas from community to labour ward and settled in my role within the education team in maternity. I am the link between the students and University and practice and I regularly attend the University to help teach. As a team we are involved in mandatory training, study days and the professional development of all. I am currently undergoing my MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Vikki is a teaching fellow at the University of Surrey. Her vast clinical Midwifery background spans over 15 years in case-loading midwifery, stand-alone birth centre, community, practice development, labour ward coordinating and clinical audit. In addition to Midwifery, Vikki also interviews for, teaches and assesses students, on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate health science programmes. In 2018 Vikki was awarded an NHS 70 Women Leader’s award by the NHS Leadership Academy.
I came straight from A levels into the University of Surrey to study midwifery. I am now in the third year and have enjoyed every minute of it. I also work at the university on open days to promote midwifery at Surrey and assist with interviews for the health sciences.
