  • Ellie Astley

Social Media Marketing Apprentice, Shout Network

I joined Shout Network at the beginning of 2019 and have recently started my Level 3 apprenticeship in Digital Marketing.

I am responsible for all Social Media channels of Shout Futures Ltd, organising careers expos to help others find the right Apprenticeships for them. I work closely with local schools and training providers, finding a wide range of employers that can attend the expos and encourage the future generation into finding apprenticeships.

I am keen to develop my skills within the digital marketing industry and help other people find apprenticeships as I believe this is the way forward.

I’m an avid user of social media as in my spare time I sell Nuskin beauty and skincare products. I also do a lot of charity work for both Cancer Research and Nourish the Children.

  • Tom Evans

Degree Apprentice, Aftersales – Service Operations, Bentley

I’m Tom, 18 years old from Wrexham, North Wales. I am a Service Operations Degree Apprentice in the Aftersales department within Bentley Motors Limited. I’ve been in my role for 5 months now and learning more and more every day.

I went to high school and college then instead of University I looked for apprenticeships. I looked around a many different opportunities to then find Bentley’s apprentice scheme. I am working at Bentley whilst getting a degree which is suited to my role and paid by the company. It has been a brilliant way for me to develop my skills as an individual and
define my future in the business.

  • Mhairi McDonald

    Technical Applications Consultant, Capgemini

I am a Technical Applications Consultant on the Degree Apprenticeship program with Capgemini, working towards a BSc Digital & Technology Solutions with a Software Engineering specialism. I joined Capgemini in November 2017 and I’m just about to start the second year of my studies.

I had previously worked as an Apprentice Software Engineer with a telecoms company and loved the problem solving aspects of development work, which nurtured my interest in technology. Since starting with Capgemini, I’ve been able to focus those interests on multiple projects in various teams alongside challenging myself with my university studies. I work in a small team that supports an IT system for a government department, and my day to day role involves tasks like fixing existing problems with the software, liaising with the client, and making improvements to the system.

My studies are based out of Aston University but I work and live in Manchester, so I travel to Birmingham 3-4 times a year for lectures and exams and attend online evening tutorials during the week. Doing an apprenticeship instead of going to university suits me perfectly as I definitely thrive in a working environment.

  • Liberty Frankland

    Engineering Apprentice, Gatwick Airport

Liberty is a second year apprentice on the engineering apprenticeship scheme at Gatwick airport.

“I am currently in my second year working on my second placement at the airport as well as studying for a BTEC and NVQ. The first year of the apprenticeship was spent at college studying a wide range of courses including maths, electronics, hand tools, machinery, electrical installation, pneumatics and hydraulics, CAD, technical drawing and health and safety. This allowed me to learn skills which would aide me on my placements at work.

My second year has given me the chance to put what I have learnt into action as well as learning more skills from the technicians. I enjoy the opportunities the apprenticeship gives me and the fact that no day is the same due to the wide breath of jobs that are worked on and the various projects offered to us to get involved with. Working at the airport is like working with a family, everyone is there to help you should you need it.

I decided an apprenticeship was for me as I wanted to continue studying and learning more, but I wanted the experience and context to what I was learning which I felt I couldn’t get from going straight to university. At work there are so many learning opportunities with various training such as ESR to help in the working environment.”

  • Jack Hobbs

    Engineering Apprentice, Gatwick Airport

Jack is a second year apprentice on the engineering apprenticeship scheme at Gatwick airport.

As a second year apprentice I study one day a week at East Surrey College and spend the rest of the time at Gatwick, where I am currently working in my second section. At college we study a variety of subjects that have allowed me to enhance my skills which I am then able to put into action within the different sections at Gatwick. These skills range from welding and machining to understanding how different pneumatics and hydraulic circuits work.

My second year has allowed me to take the skills learnt at college and apply them within the workplace and I am given every opportunity to improve on them during my placements. I am thoroughly enjoying my time at Gatwick and get to meet many new people.

I decided that an apprenticeship was the right thing for me as I wanted to continue to gain different qualifications whilst being able to experience the working environment for myself. This apprenticeship offers lots of opportunities and the chance to gain experience within a multitude of engineering disciplines.

  • Paige Birtwistle

ASK Project Co-ordinator, Lancashire Work Based Learning Executive Forum

I chose to become an apprentice because I saw a career where I could learn at the same time as earning a wage. I feel like completing an apprenticeship has enabled me to have a greater career. I deliver assemblies and workshops across all schools in Lancashire on behalf of the ASK Project. Helping pupils to understand apprenticeships and what there are able to achieve through an apprenticeship.

I enjoyed earning a wage and being independent.  I also enjoy being part of a team and being able to make a difference to the work in the apprenticeships team and the college as a whole. In five years’ time I hope to have my Level 5 Management Degree Apprenticeship and become a manager.

  • Cameron Stenton

Supply Chain Degree Apprentice, N Brown

Hi, I’m Cameron and I am 19 years old. I am currently taking part in a 4-year degree apprenticeship with a company called N Brown. We are an online retailer who predominantly supply clothing, footwear and homeware. I am now 5 months into my role, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

I am based in a warehouse which is our main distribution centre. I am currently learning each department, to gather an in-depth understanding of the business as a whole process. I also attend university once every other week, to gain my degree. Before this I had attended university previously for three months, however I decided to leave as I wanted to work full time, as well as gaining a degree. Hence why this apprenticeship was perfect for me.
