About Allied Health Professionals

Allied health professionals provide treatment and help rehabilitate adults and children who are ill, have disabilities or special needs, to live life as fully as possible. During this broadcast you will find out about the range of roles including art and drama therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiography and speech and language therapy.

  • George Smith

    Physiotherapist

George went to school locally and considered medicine or physiotherapy as career options. George’s Mum is a nurse and encouraged considering an AHP role in part due to the better work/life balance it would afford for someone who is also a keen and regular sailor. George studied at the University of Nottingham before getting a rotational job in Portsmouth in 2015. He then moved to Brighton and specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. More recently George moved back to Kent to continue his career closer to home, highlighting the flexibility and choice afforded by a job in physiotherapy! My role now involves assessing and treating patients with joint and muscle pain, supervising physiotherapy new graduates and students and working towards a more specialist role in diagnostics.

  • Rebecca Murrell

    Specialist Speech And Language Therapist

I chose to study to become a Speech and Language Therapist whilst studying for my GCSEs and A-Levels. I went straight from school to university, where I studied for three and a half years before being offered my first Speech and Language Therapy job in Kent. After graduating, I was keen to continue working with children with complex communication needs. I’ve now been working in the same trust for three and a half years and my current role involves working to identify and establish alternative ways for children to communicate. One of the most rewarding elements of my job is the close working relationships I have with other therapists within my team
