About Nursing
Nurses work in every sort of health setting from accident and emergency to working in the community, in patients’ homes or schools, with people of all ages and backgrounds. This broadcast will explain the varied role of nursing, the careers pathways available and the new apprenticeship route.
I have always had a passion for emergency nursing since my qualification in 2002. I am motivated and have continued to develop myself personally and professionally, building on knowledge and experience; completing a BSc Hons in Emergency Care. My career has encompassed cardiac and orthopaedic specialities as well as emergency nursing. I found myself enjoying teaching and supporting students and new staff members, leading by example and using evidence based care. I am now in a practice development role, which enables me to use my listening skills and support the staff more effectively.
Hello everyone, my names Chloe and I’ve worked for the NHS for 8 years. I’ve spent most of this time working as a Clinical support worker taking on tasks that assist the Nurses and Doctors in the Emergency Department.
Having worked alongside the Nurses I knew I wanted to progress but at the time was unsure how to do this or what options were available to me.
I was informed through work about this new role that was going to be introduced which was an apprenticeship- the Nurse Associate. Luckily having got my maths and English grades from school I was able to apply, I went through the whole interview process with work and university.
Having found out I got on the course I have a busy couple of years my week involves
Tuesday-university
Wednesday- placement
Thursday- work in ED
Saturday- work in ED
This new course has enabled me to develop on knowledge I already gained through work and learn new skills. Being on the course with others from the hospital means we can share experiences and knowledge that they have gained. Once qualified being on the NMC register means I am a registered
professional.
Having this course has meant that I can further my education, earn money while I study and take my skills and knowledge back to my work place.
