About Social Care
This broadcast outlined the variety of practitioners who provide mental health support including support workers, nurses and counsellors, and pathways available.
My name is Charlotte and I have worked with Surrey County Council for 3 years, within the Adult Social Services’ Reablement department. I started as a Reablement Assistant and currently I am an Integrated Reablement Worker. Having completed my care certificate, I am now commencing an apprenticeship for Level 3 Lead Care Worker. I am responsible for carrying out assessments on the service users and meeting their needs once home from hospital with individual care packages. The Reablement team work closely with other health professionals in particular Occupational Therapists. It is our goal to re-able patients at home and to encourage their independence, dignity and choices.
My particular interest of study and a subject that I am passionate about is care for patients who suffer with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
My name is Paige Hardy and I am a Reablement Assistant for Surrey county Council.
I begun my caring career 4 years ago when I applied for the role of Reablement Assistant. I had no previous experience in the social care field but had a strong passion for wanting to work with the public sector in a social care environment. Upon acceptance for the role, I completed a period of intense training, attending many courses teaching me everything needed to know from food safety, hygiene, first aid, manual handling, equipment and many more. Once completing my training I was eased in slowly at my own pace, working with very supportive team leaders and colleagues. Starting off I was shadowed by more experienced staff until I was passed off and ready to work alone.
Throughout my whole time working for Surrey County Council I have always had regular training and guidance to keep my knowledge fresh and up to date.
I have a strong passion for caring and enabling individuals to become independent and allowing them to feel empowered in their own home and making their own daily life choices. Being a Reablement assistant allows me to make a difference to vulnerable people living in the community.
