Please feel free to leave a question in the chat and a Surrey Heartlands representative will be in touch.
If you are passionate about starting a rewarding career and making a difference to peoples’ lives, then a role in health or care maybe the one for you.
This broadcast is for students living in Surrey and will focus on careers in the NHS and Social Care. You will be able to find out about different roles that provide care to people when they need it and the skills and training involved. Our Surrey Heartlands employers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and advise you about recruitment and employability skills.
If you are interested but not sure which role may suit you, then tune in and you will be able to find out about career pathways, apprenticeships and hear from current apprentices and staff about their own career journey and experiences. You will also be able to hear from practitioners working in the following areas:
Healthcare science, medicine, nursing, diagnostic and therapeutic radiography, pharmacy, dental, dietetics, speech and language, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, arts and drama therapy, midwifery, operating department practice, paramedic, psychiatry, pathology, psychology, social work and social care.
The National Health Service (NHS) is one of the largest employers in the world and is the biggest in Europe, with over 1.7 million staff. It also offers one of the most generous pension schemes. As an NHS employee, you’ll have unique access to a health service discounts scheme too, along with supportive benefits packages, generous holidays, career progression and flexible working. We recognise compassionate care comes from staff who are well looked after, and the NHS is a well-respected national employer. The NHS and care system offers more than 350 different careers and not all roles require direct patient/person contact, however, all roles contribute to making an individual’s experience better.
If you wish to join the NHS you’ll be asked to demonstrate the values of the NHS Constitution, and for all health and care roles, the 6C’s which are: Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, Commitment and how they would apply in your everyday work. If you’re applying for a university course such as nursing, or roles with other health and care providers you will also be tested on your values. It is important for you to think about how you demonstrate values as well as your qualifications and experience in your applications and interviews, you may want to think about work experience or volunteering you have done or experiences from your personal life such as helping friends or family and these are areas that we can cover during the day.
