Careers Lead: Mr Webb
One to one Careers advice in College is provided by our team of three Careers Advisors and two Work Experience coordinators. Students can book an appointment through myloreto or by calling into the Careers area opposite the main college office. Further details can be found on Loreto Daily, Loreto Weekly and in your college email inbox.
Every year we host over 150 Careers related events at Loreto College including talks, workshops and visits with many more opportunities being promoted through weekly careers bulletins and emails. Many of these are organised by individual departments so that students can see what opportunities are opened up to them by the subjects they are studying and more generic events directly by the careers department. These involve personnel from Universities, apprenticeship providers and employers.
This term we already have an exciting programme of events and activities planned to include:-
The highlight of the year is the annual College Careers Fair in April with over 80 exhibitors including universities, employers and apprenticeship providers. All students are able to visit and discuss their options with a wide range of providers. A visit to a University is arranged for every lower sixth student in June so enable them to find out about university life and make an informed decision about their future.
A Parents conference is held in July to inform parents about HE and career options, student finance and the support offered in college.
Students are updated weekly about events and opportunities via a weekly careers power point and poster , notices on the college screens and a weekly careers email. We try to give students access to a wide range of opportunities to cover all interests.
We offer a range of support in college for students to enable them to make good career decisions and be prepared for Higher Education and working life.
This includes support with UCAS and Apprenticeship applications and personal statements, interview preparation, CV writing, Employability skills, presentation skills, exploring the labour marker, appropriate use of social media and identifying live vacancies and opportunities.
This is delivered through the tutorial system, assemblies; specific software packages in house workshops one to one meetings and presentations.
We work to ensure that all young people are able to develop the skills needed to achieve paid employment, skills of independence and develop themselves beyond the classroom in preparation for adulthood so that they are able to become active members of their community.
