With the merger of the two colleges, we are now in the process of creating a single, online, careers course, which will be delivered across both campuses.

‘Upskill’ is our online careers course, designed to help students develop the skills and attributes needed to enter and progress successfully into the world of work. This course is delivered as a discrete, online study programme, with set targets throughout the academic year. Students are directed to the relevant sections when attending tutorial sessions with lecturers and Progress Coaches.

Additionally, careers related talks, presentations, visiting speakers and other events will also run throughout the year and in addition to the online Careers Programme, students can also access individual support from the college Careers Team whenever they need support.

Upskill covers all of the normal careers related topics, but has been branded to reflect the requirements of the workplace. Upskill has four themes all focused on improving student’s employability. Each theme is accompanied by assessments that assess learning. The themes are as follows:

Professional Standards gives all the information needed when getting started in a college or worksetting. Students are encouraged to identify what they’re good at and where they may need support. This theme also covers leadership and supporting others.

Safety and Respect at Work focuses on how to behave in the workplace and includes Health and Safety in the workplace.

Progressing Your Career focuses on the Magnificent Seven employability skills, progression, university and career planning. Students get the opportunity to speak to universities and employers through guest speaker events and at our Futures Fair. Important life skills such as applying for jobs and personal finance are also covered.
