Understanding the Coronavirus is imperative to keeping yourself and loved ones safe.

COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus.

This broadcast will feature Dr Hickman who will be talking about COVID-19 and how to keep yourself and family members safe and healthy.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

    Katherine Charles Hickman

    GP at Bradford District CCG

    Katherine qualified from Leeds University in 2000. She originally did a Medicine Rotation acquiring her MRCP before settling into General Practice.

    Since qualifying she has worked as a Partner as well as a locum and is now enjoying life as a salaried GP. Over the years Katherine has developed a keen interest in Respiratory medicine and is Respiratory Lead for Bradford and Leeds CCGs as well as working extensively with the Primary Care Respiratory Society.

    She is keen to improve the standards of Respiratory Care across Leeds and Bradford and ensure that every respiratory patient receives the standard of treatment and care that they deserve.

    Outside of work Katherine spends most of her time running around after her three small children. She also enjoys cooking and baking and has recently rediscovered a love for running and is one day hoping to run another Marathon.
