This broadcast will cover the South of England region and will focus on careers in the NHS and different roles that provide care to people when they need it. The sessions will hopefully answer any questions you may have on how to get into healthcare roles, what skills you will need and a chance to hear from employers first hand to help with recruitment and employability skills. Interested in the NHS but not sure which role may suit you, then tune in and you will be able to ask questions if you would like to and hear from current students, apprentices and staff to hear about their journey and experiences.
The National Health Service (NHS) is one of the largest employers in the world and is the biggest in Europe, with over 1.7 million staff. It also offers one of the most generous pension schemes. As an NHS employee, you’ll have unique access to a health service discounts scheme too along with supportive benefits packages, generous holidays, career progression and flexible working . We recognise compassionate care comes from staff who are well looked after, and the NHS is a well-respected national employer. The NHS offers more than 350 different careers which do not not always require direct patient contact, all roles contribute to making patients’ experience better.
If you wish to join the NHS or in an organisation that provides NHS services, you’ll be asked to demonstrate the values of the NHS Constitution and how they would apply in your everyday work. If you’re applying for a university course such as nursing you’ll be also be tested on your values.
This is why is it so important for you to think about how you demonstrate the values in your applications and interviews. You may want to think about work experience or volunteering you have done or experiences from your personal life such as helping friends or family. These are areas that we can cover during the day.
