The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances.
It is a profoundly simple but effective concept, which any primary or nursery school can implement completely free of charge and without the need for staff training. Its impact can be transformational – improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.
The Daily Mile is a social activity, wherein the children run or jog – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends. Children can occasionally walk to catch their breath, if necessary, but should aim to run or jog for the full 15 minutes.
Research has shown that The Daily Mile can even increase attainment in primary school, and parents have reported an increased interest in health and wellbeing from their children after they have started The Daily Mile.
We want every child to have the opportunity to do a Daily Mile at primary school, and are now working to build a Daily Mile community with schools, local councils, sports bodies and other supporters in the UK and beyond https://thedailymile.co.uk/
The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is the largest multi-sport youth competition in the county. Spread over 23-24 June it brings together 7-16 year olds from Surrey’s 11 districts and boroughs (age 7-18 for disability sport boccia, if still in Key Stage 4 & full time education) who have had free training from their borough in their chosen sport.
In 2018 most of the action will be on ‘Super Sunday’, with borough and district squads battling it out at Surrey Sports Park. Girls’ cricket and football will take place on Saturday, as will badminton and senior squash which have a new home at Woking Leisure Centre (operated by Freedom Leisure in conjunction with Woking Borough Council).

All children across England, who are in Reception and Year 6 have the opportunity to be weighed and measured as part of the National Child Measurement Programme. This information is used to measure how many children are a healthy weight and how many have excess (too much) weight.
We know that children who are a healthy weight are more likely to be healthy adults, while carrying too much can increase the risk of health and emotional problems, when you get older and sometimes straight away. These can be sore backs and knees, type 2 diabetes, asthma, some cancers and sometimes the upset of being bullied.
Too much sugar can lead to the build up of harmful fat on the inside, this fat around our vital organs can lead to serious disease and make us gain too much weight. Too much sugar also causes tooth decay.
