Group Head of Fire Safety Policy & Standards – London Stansted

The Role:

In this role you will be providing leadership and strategic direction on the Fire Safety Policy for Stansted Airport. This will include:

Fire Engineering Design: Responsible for ensuring fire safety engineering design is captured as part of the client requirements, fire safety engineering advice as well as forming part of the client team for new buildings and buildings undergoing refurbishment in respect to fire safety measures
Strategic Policy: Responsible for the development and delivery of policy, standards & vision on all fire safety related matters to support the delivery of the group’s vision and mission.
Assurance: Working with the Group Risk, compliance and assurance function to assure the end-to-end compliance of the operations functions compliance with regards to fire safety policy & standards and MAG improvement programmes such as ARP.
Operational Support: Provide advice and support to MAG’s operations teams to assist in ensuring regulatory and legislative obligations are met and that projects meet industry codes and legislative requirements for fire safety management.

Principle Accountabilities:

Providing fire engineering advice and expertise on internally managed projects for new build, fit-out or renovation projects to ensure that MAG’s design brief, business continuity, property protection and operational requirements can be met.
Act as client representative and support Senior Management teams when liaising with the Authorities having Jurisdiction (Fire Service, Building Control, Insurers).
Provide fire safety advice to assist the fire safety managers, local operating teams and other interested parties, such as the media.
Develop the existing fire safety framework strategy, operating model and organisational structure for MAG to continue to ensure that the Executive and Senior Management teams are fully engaged.
Working in conjunction with the Executive and Senior Management teams to promote best practice by developing leading-edge strategies and policies for fire safety.
Lead the development and implementation of Group wide safety campaigns and initiatives to drive continual improvement in fire safety across all areas of the business.
Working in collaboration with Group Health, Fire safety and Operational Resilience and Group Audit & assurance teams, input, support and facilitate regular fire safety external and internal audits of all MAG operations, benchmarking the company against leading edge industry standards.

You:

You will be able to show a strong background within a similar role for a large and complex organisation. Your established experience in both fire engineering and team leadership will ensure successful management of both projects, as well as provide direction and support to a team of fire safety engineers and managers. You will also have the following skills and experience:

A track record in the delivery of leading-edge fire engineering practices and performance across a range of industry sectors
A high-profile advocate of fire safety
An accomplished presenter, with an industry presence and reputation in the fire safety field. Ideally a presenter of leading-edge practice and thinking at industry forums.
The ability to lead a matrix structure of professionals across a group, in virtual teams.
A record of using leading and lagging fire safety data from across a business to develop fire safety improvement programs that embed and sustain in a complex organization.
A Chartered Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers with at least 10 yrs. experience in a senior fire engineering role.
Possess a tertiary level qualification (preferred) (e.g., MSc, MBA etc.)
Manages budget line and understands financial business impact.
