Water Wise: Free Water Safety Broadcast for Primary Schools – NOW AVAILABLE ON DEMAND
Primary schools are invited to join Water Wise, a free educational water safety broadcast delivered in partnership with Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service and Safe+Sound. Designed for primary-aged pupils, the session explores how to stay safe around open water environments such as rivers, canals, lakes, reservoirs, beaches, and the sea.
Through engaging discussions, real-life examples, and practical advice, children will learn about common water hazards including cold water shock, strong currents, deep water, and slippery banks. The broadcast also covers what to do if someone is in difficulty and how to seek help safely in an emergency.
We will be joined by Canal & River Trust throughout the programme. Canal & River Trust is the charity which cares for 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, including canals, rivers, reservoirs and docks. Explorers is the Trust’s learning programme aimed at 2-12 year olds, designed to inspire learning by connecting young people to inland waterways and helping everyone to stay safe around water. There is a host of resources on the Trust’s website for pre-school children and their parents, primary aged children and KS3 in secondary school.
