The Big Swim! with Becky Adlington OBE
As an Olympic swimmer, I am thrilled to be taking part in ‘The BIG Swim’ broadcast alongside the JD Foundation. I am so passionate about water safety, considering that our world is comprised of 70% water, and encountering water is an inevitable part of life. It is an essential life skill that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. The closure of over 200 pools in the UK due to the pandemic has magnified the importance of educating people about water safety now more than ever.
Additionally, I am excited by the opportunity to share my Olympic journey. While swimming may not always be in the limelight, I hope to inspire up and coming swimming superstars or anyone striving to be the best in their hobbies.
As the summer is here, it’s a perfect time to educate everyone on water safety and I hope it stays with them throughout their lives.
Currently in the UK, one in four children are unable to swim by the time they go to secondary school. We’re here to change this. Through our bespoke member only centres we enable more families across the UK access to our expert teaching programmes within a premium and fun environment making learning to swim the best part of a child’s week!
Our fun, bespoke programme is designed to support your child through their introduction to swimming lessons. With small class sizes, teachers in the water with beginners and weekly themed lessons we will unlock their swimming potential.

The JD Foundation are so excited to be partnering with Olympic Swimmer Becky Adlington for ‘The BIG Swim’ broadcast on June 22nd!
The JD Foundation are the charity arm of JD Sports, and we are super passionate about supporting our colleagues, customers, and communities by offering support and raising awareness around key themes that align with JD Sports.
Swimming is such an important skill to develop and can literally save your life – this is why we’re working with Becky and the team at Swim! to educate young people around water safety and the importance of swimming.
You’ll hear first-hand from Becky about the importance of learning to swim, but you’ll also hear her talking about her own Olympic Journey which saw her win 2 gold medals – which you’ll get to see!
The broadcast is a fun and innovative way to get the message out to thousands of young people around swimming – we want young people to be able to swim and use water in safe and fun ways, whilst developing an amazing skill that they will have for life.

As the world’s leading swimwear brand we care passionately about every child having the chance to learn to swim and we are on a mission to help make this happen, with our campaign Swim United. Last year we helped 4,000 children to learn to swim and are working to do better this year.
We partner with organisations like the Black Swimming Association and Active Black Country, alongside our amazing Olympic swimmers like Adam Peaty and Alice Tai to help those children most at risk of missing out. We want to inspire them and give them the skills they need to find their joy in the water.
